Maroochydore CBD Private Hospital Has Begun

The rapidly growing Maroochydore City Centre, located on the picturesque Sunshine Coast, has recently embarked on a monumental journey. The construction of a $100 million, 10-storey private hospital is now underway, promising state-of-the-art medical and educational facilities. This development is a significant milestone in the growth of the city centre, renowned as ‘Australia’s largest greenfield CBD development’.

Walker Corporation, a Sydney-based company, has struck a deal with the local council and its wholly owned project delivery entity, SunCentral. The agreement entails a whopping $2.5 billion investment over two decades. This funding will be allocated to 160,000sqm of commercial and retail space as well as 4,000 residential apartments.

This exciting development represents a major step forward in positioning Maroochydore City Centre as a vibrant and progressive destination.” – Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson

In a separate venture, Barwon Investment Partners, a specialist fund manager, has partnered with Fortius Health to bring this hospital to life. The hospital aims to provide world-class medical services to residents, eliminating the need for long-distance travel. Fortius Health, formerly known as DPA Health, has a long-standing reputation in developing hospitals throughout Australia since 2001.

The hospital’s offerings will encompass surgical specialties, ancillary health care services, pain management, sports medicine, and allied health. Furthermore, it will serve as a hub for education, research, and clinical care, with a strong emphasis on musculoskeletal conditions.

The hospital will be anchored by two key tenants – the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and global orthopaedic leader, Medacta.

UniSC’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, expressed excitement about this partnership. This project is set to deliver better health outcomes for the community, while also fostering expert health knowledge and graduate skills. The hospital will provide opportunities for students and researchers in various health programs.

Students and researchers here will be working at the forefront of medical innovation and knowledge alongside industry experts.” – UniSC’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett

As a global orthopaedic leader, Medacta will be a vital contributor to the hospital’s focus on musculoskeletal conditions. Their expertise will be invaluable in providing top-notch healthcare services in this field.

Tom Patrick, Barwon’s head of healthcare property, expressed eagerness about the ongoing construction. He emphasized the project’s potential to cater to the healthcare needs of Maroochydore residents and neighbouring communities. Moreover, it will foster local job opportunities through the creation of numerous new roles.

SunCentral CEO, Amanda Yeates, reiterated the significance of the hospital in fostering innovation and cultivating a new generation of local healthcare leaders. She also highlighted how the Maroochy Private Hospital will contribute to the continued diversification of the economic base in the Maroochydore City Centre.

The construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. The initial works will focus on the delivery of key service and roads infrastructure.
